When hydrogen molecules are put in contact with specific materials, the molecules are dissociated into hydrogen atoms. These atoms are then absorbed in the interstitial sites of the metallic compound. The process occurs at near-ambient pressure, is very safe, and reversible.
We exploit the property that the hydrogen density achieved in this state is extremely high for our DASH™ hydrogen storage products. They enable the dense and safe storage of large quantities of hydrogen and therefore energy, a key challenge for the buildup of the future renewable energy system.
We also work with the same material classes to build HyCo™ hydrogen compressors in which the compression is driven by heat and not electrical energy. These silent, low-maintenance, and safe compressors will become an important component of the infrastructure for hydrogen mobility.
